“He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t made yet.”
Buddy was our dog, but he was also our family’s constant — there for every important moment for fifteen years. This page is our small way of saying: we see you, we miss you, good boy.
Buddy McAllister arrived on a rainy March morning in 2008 — a golden fluffball who fit in one hand and immediately stole a sock. He never really stopped stealing things after that, but you couldn't stay mad at him for long. For fifteen years, Buddy was the constant center of the McAllister household. He was there for every move, every graduation, every heartbreak, every new baby. He once ate an entire Thanksgiving turkey off the counter while the family was saying grace, and he looked so proud of himself that they laughed until they cried. That was Buddy — completely unrepentant, utterly lovable. He had a couch spot that was technically not allowed. By 2009 no one was enforcing that rule. By 2010 it was simply called Buddy's spot. He discovered Cannon Beach in the summer of 2009 and decided immediately that the ocean was a personal challenge. Every wave was an opponent. Every summer after that, he got his rematch. The waves always won. He never cared. When baby Emma came home in 2012, Buddy appointed himself her guardian without being asked. He slept outside her door every night for years, and as she grew up, they were inseparable. In his final years, he slowed down a little, napped more than he ran, and loved just as fiercely as ever. He passed peacefully at home on November 3, 2023, surrounded by the McAllister family he had spent fifteen years protecting, entertaining, and adoring. He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't made yet.
